About EditoraGrafica.com

I am a journalist and a passionate photo editor — though the latter by accident.

My name is Sara Ocón and I was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the late 1970s. The roll of film with the photo I took next to Rafa Pascual, my idol back in ’92, got ruined. Perhaps that was the sign that my future lay neither in being a volleyball player nor a professional photographer, even though I was crazy about both.

Just before turning 18, I landed at the Faculty of Information Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid. My notes folder was covered with photos by Annie Leibovitz published in El País Semanal but originally shot for Vanity Fair magazine (which at the time was only published in the United States). That sign looked far more promising.

I graduated in Journalism and took part in the launch of La guía de los contenidos de Internet, a magazine that came out before the boom of Google; it featured a kind of “yellow pages of the web”, and it is where my love affair with the digital world began.

Later I worked at a publisher specialising in travel magazines, where I also had to find the images to illustrate the news pages. Although we won the ARI Award for best specialist magazine in 2002 with Lunas de Miel y otros viajes para dos, we had hardly any budget. We committed a copyright infringement, followed by the corresponding rights claim. And that is how I discovered this wonderful profession, which I decided to devote myself to and began training in, so that I could keep searching for and discovering the best images by the best photographers in the world. And to make sure I never again received a copyright infringement.

Since then I have worked as a photo editor at some of the most important magazines and websites in Spain. I started at Maxim, then moved on to the popular-science magazine and website QUO, and in 2007 my university dream came true when I was hired to join the team launching the Spanish edition of Vanity Fair, published by Condé Nast.

At Condé Nast, besides finding and managing photos for Vanity Fair and later also for VOGUE, I have kept creating content and telling travel and lifestyle stories, although my favourites are the “stories behind a photograph”, like this one.

I am currently a freelance photo editor, working from an office with a view in a village in Huelva. I won’t post a photo of my office so as not to make you jealous. But I can find you the perfect photo to tell your story.
